Your First Prompt

Getting Started
5 min read

Let's walk through creating your first prompt using PromptCue. We'll use the popular RTCI (Role, Task, Context, Intent) framework to create a prompt for writing a product description.

Step 1: Choose a Framework

Navigate to the Framework Selector

On the main page, you'll see a dropdown menu labeled "Select a prompt framework". Click on it to see all available frameworks.

💡 Tip: You can filter frameworks by category using the badges above the dropdown. For this example, look for frameworks tagged with "Structured Writing".

Step 2: Select RTCI Framework

Find and select "Role, Task, Context, Intent (RTCI)" from the dropdown. This framework is perfect for beginners because it provides a clear structure for any type of request.

Why RTCI?

RTCI is one of the most versatile frameworks. It helps you define exactly what role the AI should take, what task it should perform, the context it needs to know, and what you intend to achieve.

Step 3: Fill Out the Framework Parameters

Once you select RTCI, you'll see a form with several fields to fill out. Let's create a prompt for writing a product description:

AI Persona

Choose: "Act as a"

This dropdown lets you choose how the AI should approach the task - either more creatively ("Imagine you are") or more directly ("Act as").

Role

Enter: "professional copywriter specializing in e-commerce product descriptions"

Be specific about the role. This helps the AI understand what expertise and perspective to bring to the task.

Task

Enter: "write a compelling product description that highlights key features and benefits"

Define exactly what you want the AI to do.

Context

Enter: "The product is a wireless Bluetooth headphone with noise cancellation, 30-hour battery life, and premium sound quality. Target audience is professionals and commuters aged 25-45."

Provide all the background information the AI needs to complete the task effectively.

Intent

Enter: "increase conversion rates on our e-commerce website by clearly communicating value and addressing customer pain points"

Explain the ultimate goal or purpose behind this request.

Response

Enter: "a 150-200 word product description with bullet points for key features"

Specify the format and length you want for the response.

Step 4: Review Your Generated Prompt

As you fill out each field, you'll see the complete prompt being generated in the "Generated Prompt" section below. Here's what your finished prompt will look like:

Your Generated Prompt:

Act as a professional copywriter specializing in e-commerce product descriptions. Your task is to write a compelling product description that highlights key features and benefits. The context is that the product is a wireless Bluetooth headphone with noise cancellation, 30-hour battery life, and premium sound quality. Target audience is professionals and commuters aged 25-45. Your intent is to increase conversion rates on our e-commerce website by clearly communicating value and addressing customer pain points. Your response should be a 150-200 word product description with bullet points for key features.

Step 5: Copy and Use Your Prompt

Click the "Copy Prompt" button to copy your generated prompt to your clipboard.

Now you can paste this prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any other AI tool to get a high-quality product description.

Step 6: Save Your Prompt (Optional)

If you're logged in, you can click "Save Prompt" to add this prompt to your personal library for future use.

Saved prompts can be edited, organized, and shared with others. This is especially useful for prompts you plan to use regularly.

🎉 Congratulations!

You've just created your first structured prompt using PromptCue. This prompt is much more likely to generate high-quality, relevant results compared to a simple request like "write a product description for headphones."

Try using this prompt in your favorite AI tool and see the difference that structure makes!
